I like Art. And I like this Art Community.
The house of my dreams and fantasies, that modern T1 or T2 apartment I will share with a few cats, will have each division covered in beautiful Art that will instantly put me in a good mood every time I look at it. Right now though, I'm a university student on a scholarship, living with my mother, basically never leaving my room.
Right now, my walls are completely bare. I mentioned it
a few times on
my personal blog.
Why have I not gotten some of my favorite pieces from here, if I like this Art community so much? Well, it's not that I don't want to, and it's not even that I can't afford the said Art, because you can actually find some pretty amazing things at pretty cheap prices. It's that I can't afford the shipping fees.
Forget about Art, that's completely out of reach. Even merchandise. A Fella plushie for example, an item that costs 20$ (or 13€ ), will turn into a 40$ item (that's 27€ ) with the shipping fees for Portugal added. Regardless of the physical size of the item you're trying to buy, the shipping fees will double or triple its cost.
So I've bitched a lot. And a lot of other people have bitched a lot too. It's crazy, and it's unacceptable that a community and company this large would have such a bad delivery service. So until now, I've stuck to my subscriptions, but never purchased anything from DeviantArt. I like this Art community, and I would like to buy my Art here, not only because this is where some of the most amazing artists are, but also because I trust dA with my money and would like to help support them.
A couple of days ago came
the announcement that, until the 27th, all shipping to everywhere in the world will be free. Free shipping, until the 27th. All of a sudden, no warning and no special occasion that I'm aware of.
Mind you, I'm still a poor university student, there are still books I need to buy for this semester, and I can't forget the monthly 60€ bus and train pass to get to university. But free shipping! Pure bliss for me over here. It's like they finally listened and are trying to do something about it to make it better.
I'm hoping that if this is successful, if DeviantArt realizes that free shipping promotions every now and then - or just more reasonable shipping fees - will actually earn them more money than simply going with whatever delivery service is available (which I hear in America is usually FedEx), I'm hoping they'll change permanently and all this amazing Art will become more available for everyone.
That's me hoping. Either way, thank you DeviantArt! Thank you all you wonderful staff for taking our criticism and trying to improve this service for us. And although my bank account is pretty much empty, I will take the opportunity to get a few small pieces I've been wanting.
(Just so you know, I've decided on 6 small pints so far, adding up to 8€, or 12$. That's six prints, eight euros or twelve dollars. Like, dude!)
Thank you!
